The Triangle Platform Hammock Thingy…

I am not sure what to call this, maybe TREEfool’s Platform of Awesomeness? What do you think?

Last week I showed you guys an idea I was working on after I cut up one of my old hammocks and hung it in a very non traditional way (see that post here). I was honestly so overwhelmed with the idea that I HAD TO BUILD IT. I have gotten pretty quick with the sewing machine lately so it only took me a few hours to make.

My verdict? Meh. Haha. I mean, it is WAY MORE AWESOME than my traditional hammock because I have SO MUCH ROOM and the weight difference is negligible. I didn’t expect it to drop so much in the middle when I am laying in it so the lay isn’t very flat head to feet. That is a big bummer for me because I NEED a flat lay. A lot more testing needs to be done and then I will build on a mosquito net and tarp.

Stay tuned for more updates and its maiden voyage into the tree canopy!

UPDATE: There is an ongoing forum conversation about this hammock at the following link –> https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?98158-I-DIYed-a-triangular-platform-quot-hammock-quot-thingy-Check-out-the-pictures!

    1. That was my initial plan but I noticed that no other manufacture of this type of hammock used catenary cuts so I began contemplating the reason for this. I came to the conclusion that traditional bridge hammocks work so well with catenary cuts because the material at the head lays further away from the webbing vs the distance from the hips down from the webbing. With a triangle hammock that uses high tension the material at the head is brought upwards and the catenary cut wouldn’t be effective. But danget! Now that I am envisioning it in my head again nothing that I just said makes sense, hahaha. Now I am envisioning a catenary cut that is very deep near the torso and shallow near the feet and I don’t see why this wouldn’t be better. DARNET! Maybe it would be a lot better!?

      1. I really think the cat cut would help just by looking at it again. I would do the traditional style with the max of the cut near the lumbar – butt area. Good luck with it. 👍

    1. Yup, I have browsed Tensile Tents in the past. The “Triangle Platform Hammock” is actually much more similar to the Treez Tree Tents. The Tensile Tent is, IMO, just a heavy play toy that can not be used by actual adventurists (except in the advertisements, hahaha).
