Eating Sheperd’s Purse

When & How to Find Sheperd’s Purse
Sheperd’s Purse usually starts growing when you see the dandelions popping up in your lawn. When this plant is young the leaves stay low to the ground and other plants quickly camouflage it.

BUT! You can easily find the plant as soon as the flower stem with white petals on top pops up. These thin little stems quickly tower high above the other plants in urban settings.

How to eat Sheperd’s Purse
My favorite part is by far the flower stem. Even on very old plants you can clip the last inch or two of the flower stem and it is so yummy. The leaves taste great raw, in a salad, or on a hummus sandwhich too!
